Car Seat Cover Re-do

A couple of years ago a neighbor was getting a divorce and moving out of her house.  She was cleaning out her garage and asked if I wanted her dirty but still in good condition car seat.  Abby was an infant, we had a brand new convertible car seat in the garage, and knew we'd need another one soon.  Always the cheap one, I gladly took the seat.  Of course, Matt looked at me like I was crazy when I brought it home.  Then again, it did look like this:

Eeeeeewwwwww, could anything be any uglier???

So, in an attempt to make it look suitable for a little girl, I ordered a custom made car seat cover from a lady on ebay.  At the time, I wasn't terribly confident in my sewing skills.  While the cover was nicely made, it never fit right.  It was baggy and slipped around.  I did like the pattern--a purple Hawaiian print.

Convinced I could do better coupled with the fact that the cover was starting to look stained and ugly, I studied the old cover, altered it with pins here and there, figured out what needed to be changed in the design, and then ripped the whole thing apart.  I figured I  could use the old cover as a pattern for the new cover.

I was actually impressed with myself!  The cover turned out beautful!!!

This picture doesn't do the fabrics justice.  The inside fabric is aqua with brown accents.  And the outside fabric is brown with an aqua floral.  I'll try to take a picture of the fabrics tomorrow when there is actually light in my living room.

Tomorrow I'm going to attempt to cover Claire's booster seat in the  same fabrics.  It's a Graco booster seat so it's a bit more complicated than the Cosco ones that just have a rectangle-shaped cover.
